About Us Serrano is a traditional K-5 school. Serrano has a school wide Title 1 Program. We also have
two coaches that are certified teachers. We have a language arts coach and a math coach to support the teachers. Serrano School has an ELD Specialist teacher and seven aides (that work with 670 limited English proficient students). We also have Speech, counseling, and a Resource Specialist Program to assist our students and help them succeed in school. Serrano has one READ 180 class, a High Point Class for fourth grade and a High Point Class for fifth grade. Currently there are eight ACS classes, two in third grade, two in second grade, two in first grade and two in kindergarten. The TLP aides are helping in classrooms with staggered times to help all identified ELL learners. The school has a library, multipurpose room and cafeteria services. Serrano traditionally recognizes and promotes multicultural awareness throughout the year. Classroom instruction in multicultural awareness is augmented by ongoing awareness infused throughout the curriculum all year. Serrano has a computer lab that works with a reading program “PLATO” and enclosed garden that continues to support students from the “Magnet Grant of Science and Technology” completed a few years ago. Our mission at Serrano is to provide an academic environment that encourages and develops the whole child: intellectually, morally, emotionally, and physically. We promote self-esteem and mutual respect among students, parents, and staff through school/community interaction. We are committed to dedicating our energies to an appreciation of these shared goals so that our students can lead a fulfilling life in our society as productive workers, citizens, and lifelong learners. Serrano will continue to focus on communications through language arts, science, and technology. |
